Chapter 38 (Angel Falling Softly)

An "opportunistic infection" occurs when mostly benign pathogens (such as the common cold virus) take advantage of an immune system weakened by (for example) immunosuppressive or radiation therapy to spread faster than a healthy body would otherwise allow. For transplant patients, it is a risk equal to GVHD ("rejection").
