New Twelve Kingdoms novel

According to Fuyumi Ono's Twitter feed, mid-2016 will see a new installment in the Twelve Kingdoms series, and it is "a very long story" (「とても長い物語」). She writes that the work is proceeding apace, a publication schedule is set, and further announcements are forthcoming. So stay tuned!

Fuyumi Ono's two most recent Twelve Kingdoms books were short story collections. But her latest seems to be a novel of massive proportions. ANN reports that her publisher estimates the manuscript at over 1000 pages.

I'm crossing my fingers that she'll tie up all the dangling threads from the Gyousou/Taiki arc in a glorious and epic finale.

Whoa! That's some news! I almost can't believe it.
That being said, I hope she will give more light on the Taiki arc too.
Even though the previous story ended with Taiki coming to terms about what happened to him
and leaving with Risai for Tai. Can't wait to hear what the story is going to be about.
Too bad I can't read in the original language, otherwise I would have pre-ordered the book already if they
even have an option to do so. :)

Wow, I wonder how they're going to split it up at that size. Excited to hear more about it!

Whoa this is great to hear! I only watched the series maybe 8 or 9 times over the last few years and finally decided to read the source material, and not only do I find an awesome site with legit translations, but news that there will be more coming out. I'm thrilled! So stoked! Bravo :)

I personally don't think things were all that unresolved with Taiki's arc. I mean, yes, we don't know some things, but I thought Taiki's return with Risai was very moving and conclusive. It was about finding your path to where you belong, and at the end, taking that courageous first step towords your destiny. But... I guess everyone wants to know about the second and third steps too, haha.

So that said, I'm fine with it being a massive work about something completely new. I am eager to escape "Hourai" and return to the world of twelve kingdoms. Thanks for the updates!

I have watched the anime a couple of years ago, and fell in love with it. Now, I decide to finally pick up Ono's books, considering I am a fan of her previous works of Ghost Hunt and Shiki. Even tho I just started, I have read some posts online saying that the last couple of books deal with side stories, and how "Youko's story" ends in a sense. I hope this new "long" book is able to focus on Youko, tho I shouldn't be talking since I have yet to read the whole book series... Anyway, thank you very much for this. Only because of your efforts am I able to enjoy this wonderful story without speaking Japanese.
